Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly known as Virginia Tech, is a comprehensive research, teaching and public service university. It is the home of 25,000 students and the "home away from home" for over 1,400 international students and almost 200 international faculty members representing more than 90 different countries. The University sponsors and participates in a wide variety of special projects on every continent.

An increasing number of international students are selecting Virginia Tech for academic study because of its national and international reputation in Engineering, Architecture, Business, Resources, Forestry and Wildlife Resources, and Veterinary Medicine. Virginia Tech's centers for research in such areas as Fiber Optics, Power Electronics, Adhesion Science, Anaerobic Microbiology, Intelligent Materials, Robotics, Polymers, and Composite Materials provide learning laboratories for international scholars and students alike.
